About the Forum

The AI in Practice Forum is part of the AI in Africa Research Project led by African Leadership University (ALU) and SAND Technologies, with funding support from Google.org. This two-year research initiative explores how artificial intelligence can help address major socio-economic challenges in education, agriculture, health, and SME development while ensuring ethical governance and responsible deployment.

Following successful convenings in Rwanda, Ghana, and South Africa, we will host the AI in Practice Forum on 3–4 December 2025, with a distinct focus on two sectors at the heart of Nigeria’s future: Education and Healthcare.

This forum is uniquely designed around the voices and experiences of frontline practitioners: teachers, school administrators, doctors, nurses, and hospital managers. These are the professionals who best understand both the promise and pitfalls of AI adoption. Their perspectives are critical in shaping dialogue, policy, and implementation strategies.

Nigeria is positioning itself as a continental leader in AI through the development of its National AI Strategy. Lagos, as a hub of innovation, entrepreneurship, and health and education reform, offers the ideal environment to explore how AI can scale responsibly.

The forum will convene stakeholders across government, private sector, civil society, and academia to ensure discussions, recommendations, and proposed actions are grounded in real-world impact.

The event will explore how AI can enhance teaching, learning, and school management, as defined by Nigerian educators and administrators, and how AI can support patient care, hospital operations, and public health, as defined by Nigerian clinicians and administrators.

AI In Education

Day 1 will explore how AI can enhance teaching, learning, and school management in Nigeria. Educators and administrators will engage directly with AI tools, examine real use cases from Nigerian EdTech startups, and discuss practical challenges such as infrastructure, training, and ethics.

The goal: identify where AI can make the biggest impact in classrooms and define what’s needed for responsible, scalable adoption.

AI In Healthcare

Day 2 will focus on how AI can improve patient care, diagnostics, and hospital operations. Clinicians and health administrators will interact with AI solutions currently being tested in Nigerian hospitals, assess their benefits and risks, and highlight the conditions required for safe, effective implementation.

The goal: chart a clear path for integrating AI into Nigeria’s healthcare system responsibly and sustainably.

Forum Outcomes

Hands-on engagement with AI tools

Practitioners will directly interact with AI solutions designed for their sector, gaining applied understanding of how these tools can support their daily work.

Practitioner feedback loop

Teachers, doctors, administrators, and others will share insights on the usability, effectiveness, and limitations of AI tools, creating a valuable feedback channel for innovators and policymakers.

Surface frontline perspectives

Identify the most pressing opportunities and challenges for AI adoption in Nigerian education and healthcare, as articulated by practitioners.

Highlight enabling conditions

Document the most critical requirements for responsible adoption (for example infrastructure, training, policy, public buy-in).

Practitioner Insights Report

A concise summary capturing lived experiences, opportunities, challenges, and enabling conditions, designed to inform national and regional AI strategies.

Networks for collaboration

Strengthen relationships between schools, hospitals, startups, regulators, and investors, creating momentum for future pilots and partnerships.
